Court and date of trial: Sussex Spring Assizes in Lewes on 21 March 1836.

Crime: Riot.

Initial sentence: 12 months imprisonment with hard labour at the House of Correction at Petworth.

Petitioner(s): Letter from G B Smythe, Visiting Magistrate to Petworth Prison with a recommendation to remit the remainder of the prisoners' sentences.

Grounds for clemency: The prisoners' good behaviour during their confinement and it is believed they will not re-offend.
