Under Swansea & Carmarthen Railways Act of 16th June 1871, "Swansea lines undertaking, Carmarthen line undertaking, and Mumbles Extension & Pier" were severed from undertaking of Llanelly Railway Company and incorporated as Swansea & Carmarthen Railways Company. Under Swansea & Carmarthen and London & North Western Railway Act 21st July 1873, part of undertaking was to be vested in London & North Western Railway Company on or before 15th September 1873, and by virtue of Central Wales & Carmarthen Junction Railway Act of 28th July 1873, the name of the company was changed to Central Wales & Carmarthen Junction Railway Company. Power was given to abandon Mumbles Extension and Section 13 of this latter act deals with application of moneys arising from sale authorised by act of 21st July 1873.

Central Wales & Carmarthen Junction Railway Company was dissolved and vested in London & North Western Railway Company under Section 38 of London & North Western Railway Act 21st July 1891.
