Administrative / biographical background: |
A divisional organisation for Fisheries within the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) was first created in 1957, with two divisions (a third division was created in 1972, and a fourth was created in 1976). Of these, Fisheries Division II was responsible for marketing and international trade matters. Following a reorganisation in 1985 (when the number of divisions was reduced to three), this series became the responsibility of Fisheries Division I. In 1994 the number of Fisheries Divisions was again expanded to four with Division II reassuming responsibility for this series. |
