The Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway Company was incorporated by the Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway Company Act of 23 May 1832.

In 1845, the railway was bought by the Cornwall and Devon Central Railway, but that Company's parliamentary bill failed in 1846, and London and South Western Railway Company took over the shares (without parliamentary sanction) in 1847, for £27,000.

In 1886, the Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway Company was transferred to the London and South Western Railway Company under the South Western Railway Act of 25 June, and it was amalgamated with the latter company as from 1 July 1886.
