The Barry Dock and Railway Company was incorporated by the Barry Dock and Railway Company Act of 14th August 1884.

On 5th August 1891, the name of the company was changed by the Barry Dock and Railways Act to the Barry Railway Company.

The company was amalgamated with Great Western Railway Company as from 1st January 1922 under Great Western and Barry railway companies' Preliminary Amalgamation Scheme 8th May 1922.
