Administrative / biographical background:

The Axminster and Lyme Regis Light Railway Company was incorporated under the Light Railways Act of 1896 by an Order of the Light Railway Commissioners confirmed by the Board of Trade 15th June 1899. The company was responsible for the construction of railway track between Axminster and Lyme Regis.

In 1907, it was purchased by London & South Western Railway Company as from 1st January 1907 under the latter company's Act of 1906.
