These transcripts were used in the preparation of the Calendar of State Papers and Manuscripts existing in the Archives and Collections of Milan, Vol 1, 1385 to 1618 (HMSO, London 1913).

Administrative / biographical background:

Mr William H Bliss, an editor employed by the Public Record Office (PRO), assembled transcripts from references supplied to him by Commendatore Fumi, the Director of the Archives at Milan. After Bliss's death in 1909, work at Milan was continued on the PRO's behalf by Mr Allen B Hinds.
