Hugh Childers was First Lord of the Admiralty 1868-1871, and Secretary of State for War, 1880-1882, which post he relinquished to succeed Gladstone as Chancellor of the Exchequer, continuing in office until 1885. He was Home Secretary for a short period in 1886, after which he held no further office. |
