This series consists of nineteenth century posteas (separated from CP 41 and CP 42), with one earlier postea of 1783, of the three main central courts of common law, the King's Bench (Plea Side), the Common Pleas and the Exchequer of Pleas. The documents, which are mostly written on parchment, all relate to civil cases, and each consists of a record of proceedings in the court in which the case was initiated, up to the point at which it was remitted to a nisi prius jury at assizes for a verdict, which was then written onto the dorse of the record as a postea. In most cases the date on which judgment was signed, and any damages and costs awarded, are also endorsed. A few items have associated writs, jury panels and registration of judgment documents attached.relating to suits tried in They supplement the similar material among the records of those courts. |
