European Community Division 2 was one of two divisions under the European Community Group, and all thereunder the Overseas Finance Sector of HM Treasury created in 1981. The Division was concerned with: European Community (EC) budget; budgetary aspects of EC policies; financing the budget; coordination of work on EC economic policy (eg preparations for EC financial ministers); co-ordination of HM Treasury's response to the interests of Parliament in EC matters and enlargement of the EC; monetary questions (including the European Monetary System (EMS)); EC credit facilities; EC Monetary Committee and the European Investment Bank (EIB). Its sister Division 1 was concerned with the reform of EC Policies and Budget and the implementation of an Agreement to reduce the UK's net contribution to the budget during the 1980s. |
