Title: | Judicial Committee of the Privy Council: Prize Appeal Cases |
Description: |
This series contains printed prize appeals to the Lords Comssioners of Appeals in Prize, with a few colonial, Indian, eclesiastical and martime appeals to various Appeals Committees of the Privy Council, bound into volumes. These printed appeals are mostly duplicates of the prize appeals in HCA 45 and HCA 42, and therefore have been described in brief. The dates given are usually those of the hearing, from HCA 45, although some may be printing dates. Dates given for the surplus loose printed appeals in HCA 42 tend to be printing dates. There is a later typescript index to the volumes, now at PCAP 13/1, which indicates the random nature of these bound volumes: related papers are widely scattered across the volumes with little or no attempt to bring them together. The general impression is that these were loose papers that at some point were bound in handsome bindings to furnish bookshelves in the Privy Council Office. These printed appeals were catalogued by the Prize Appeal volunteers in Collection Care, with funding for cross-series checking provided by the William Nelson Cromwell Foundation. |
