Title: | Prime Minister's Office: Correspondence and Papers, 1916-1940 |
Description: |
These miscellaneous papers record the conduct of government business in the Prime Minister's Office from 1916 to 1940. |
Date: | 1914-1940 |
Arrangement: |
Papers of the various administrations before September 1939 were amalgamated at the outbreak of war and sent to a place of safety. Because of this amalgamation and dispersal, the original indices no longer exist. The papers have been listed under subject headings, many of which are identical with those then in use, and a new index provided. The previous title, where different, has been given in brackets. The series is also in chronological order. |
Separated material: |
Before more stringent rules were introduced in 1934, ministers when leaving office took with them such official documents as they wished. Consequently there are fewer papers for the earlier years. Prime Ministers when leaving office still take with them their personal and party political papers. |
