The documents in this series are those of the Manchester District Registry of the Chancery Court of the Palatinate of Lancaster. They arise from winding-up petitions under the Companies Acts 1862 to 1890 and later legislation, and include such records as accounts, orders, affidavits, creditors' proofs of debts, liquidators' bills of costs, receivers' reports, etc.

The first part of the series relates to petitions each of which resulted in the making of an order to wind up the company concerned. The remaining documents relate to petitions for which no winding-up orders were made.

Arrangement:

The first block of records (PL 32/1-59), is, with one minor exception, arranged in date order from 1892. The next block (PL 32/60-65), is arranged alphabetically under the names of the companies concerned.
