A Communist from at least 1936 and serving in the Royal Navy for 11 years before becoming Commander of the British Battalion of the International Brigade, WILD was seriously injured in Spain. He was later President of the International Brigade Association and a Branch Secretary and Parliamentary candidate of the Communist Party in Lancashire
