Franz HAMPL, alias Frantisek, Franz HAMPEL. HAMPL, East German by origin, was involved in anti-Nazi and trade union activity in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s and had close Soviet links. He fled to UK in 1939. During the 1940s he was a leading figure in the communist controlled Czechoslovak-British Friendship Club. In 1948 HAMPL was implicated in espionage directed from the Czech Embassy and was expelled from the UK |
