Walter Ernest Paul ULBRICHT: German/Russian. A founder member of the Communist Party of Germany in 1918, ULBRICHT was a member of the Reichstag but in 1931 was sentenced to two years' detention for treason. During World War II he fled to Russia where he acquired Russian nationality and organised the loudspeaker propaganda in the trenches at Stalingrad. On return, he became the leader of the Socialist Party (SED) and the head of the East German government
