Description:

Traugott Andreas Richard PROTZE, alias PAARMAN: German. A former naval officer and intelligence officer from the 1920s, PROTZE was a close colleague and friend of Canaris. From 1938 on formal retirement as head of Abwehr counter-intelligence he ran an independent intelligence bureau on Canaris's behalf in Holland, 'Stelle P' which reported direct to Berlin. One of his targets was British Intelligence and his interrogation report contains details of the Venlo incident and the Putlitz case
