Description: |
Hermann GOERTZ: German. GOERTZ was convicted of espionage in 1936 and condemned to 4 years' imprisonment. There was abundant evidence that, together with a colleague, he had been collecting information in the UK about the Royal Air Force. Deported in 1939, he was parachuted into Ireland in 1940 and evaded arrest till December 1941. He was associated with 'Plan Kathleen', whose aim was to effect the German occupation of Ireland with the assistance of the IRA. GOERTZ committed suicide in Dublin Police Headquarters in 1949 when told that he was to be deported to Germany |
