Reference: KV 2/1153
Description:

Jose Santiago Rogelio STEVENS, alias ESTEVES: Belgian. STEVENS was arrested in Trinidad on his way to South America in August 1942. He claimed to be a Uruguayan citizen returning to Uruguay in an exchange scheme with German nationals. At Camp 020 he admitted to his recruitment by the Abwehr, whom he claimed had commissioned him to engage in pro-German propaganda in Uruguay and to report on South American industries working for Great Britain. It emerged that in fact he was a Belgian citizen, and there was a suspicion that his agent role was much more important than he ever admitted. He was retained for the duration of the Second World War
