Erich VERMEHREN: German. VERMEHREN was an Abwehr officer and assistant to the German Military Attache in Ankara when, early in 1944, he and his wife defected to the British side. Codenamed PRECIOUS, he gave a great deal of valuable information to the Allies about German intelligence operations, seriously curtailing their efforts in the region at the end of the war. He was also well-informed about opposition to the Nazis within Germany |
