Description:

Heinrich BRANDLER: Austrian. Implicated in the Communist uprising in Germany in 1921, BRANDLER was imprisoned for five years. He was later leader of the German Communist Party and a member of the Executive Committee of the Third International. In the 1930's he was regarded as a leading member of the Communist Opposition Group in Europe, which was essentially revolutionary in character but differed from Moscow on points of doctrine, eg on how exactly to exploit the position of the trades unions. The equivalent movement in New York was run by Jay LOVESTONE
