This series contains registered files of the Welsh Board of Health (WBH) and, in a few cases, of the Local Government Board and National Health Insurance Commission for Wales.

The files deal with a wide variety of subjects, giving a history of health and public health matters in Wales, including the administration of the poor law in Wales, emergency Second World War services, the administration of the Executive Councils created under the National Health Service Act 1946, welfare services provided under the National Assistance Act 1948, maternity and child welfare, blind welfare, hospital services (including the building of hospitals), the treatment of tuberculosis carried out by the Welsh National Memorial Association, the provision of isolation hospitals, port health administration (sea and air ports) and outbreaks of disease in humans and animals (including poliomyelitis in the early 1950s).
