Administrative / biographical background: |
The International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (1961) which was signed by the UK and seven other European countries. This convention established the International Union for the Protection of New Plant Varieties (UPOV). The broad effect of the convention was that each member state would undertake to grant plant breeders rights to persons domiciled or having registered offices in other member states. It was ratified by the UK in 1965, and came into force in 1968 when three countries had ratified it. |
