Description:

1 individual petition from Elizabeth Gregory, mother of the prisoner and 1 collective petition (13 people) on behalf of George Gregory (alias John Williams), 16, convicted at the Old Bailey on 11 April 1836 for stealing a handkerchief. Gaoler's report: character not known, ordered to Euryalus hulk. Grounds for clemency: first offence, unemployed and stole the handkerchief due to desperate need, so ashamed tried under false name of John Williams, father died while young. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Annotated: Nil. OW 62
