Administrative / biographical background: |
The Enforcement Division of the Ministry of Food was set up to police various food controls and rationing orders to prevent a black market in controlled food commodities. Food rationing ended in 1954 and in 1955 the Ministry of Food and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries merged. The role of the Enforcement Division changed as divisions in the new combined ministry dealing with subsidies needed help in investigating and prosecuting producers and others who were seeking to defraud them. |
