Papers include draft copies of the FIS rulings; agenda, minutes and papers of various committees; and revisions of regional and divisional office instructions.

Administrative / biographical background:

The Farm Improvement Scheme was given statutory authority by s12 of the Agriculture Act 1957. Under this the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food paid grants of one-third of the approved cost of providing or improving permanent fixed equipment and of making long-term improvements to agricultural land. Farmers could elect to have their grant based on the actual cost reasonably incurred, the standard costs for certain work, or a combination of both.
