Several land improvement loan companies were set up under Private Acts of Parliament and empowered to grant loans to landowners to carry out improvements to agricultural land and buildings. The amount of the loan was charged on the land improved in the form of a terminable rent-charge, which was payable half-yearly for a period not exceeding 40 years. These improvement loans were sanctioned, but not funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. |
