Content: Folios 227-228. Letter from Thomas Watkins, Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, to Poor Law Commission, applying for directions to appoint a collector of poor rates and clerk assistant for the town of Cardiff. Enclosed is the application requesting an order to appoint a collector of rates for the town. Signed: Walter Coffin, Chairman, Counter signed: Thomas Watkins. Annotated: Inform the guardians that the Poor Law Commission can only direct the guardians to appoint a collector of poor rates and it will be for the [parish] vestry to appoint such collector to be an assistant overseer of the required parish if they think fit. Send a form of application to be confined to appointment of collector and request to know what [poundage] has been hitherto.
