Content: Folios 33-35. Form of appointment of a medical officer sent from Thomas Watkins, Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission. He encloses for approval the appointment form for William Henry Wood, of Cowbridge, as Medical Officer for the Western portion of St Nicholas District. The form shows Edwards has been appointed from 17 June 1843. The salary to be £30 per annum. The appointment is due to the resignation of Mr Leigh. Annotated: Table illustrating the districts (Caerphilly, Llandaff, Cardiff, Lantrissent [Llantrisant], St Nicholas East and West), the population and distances from residences of the medical officers Defer until an answer is received to the Commission's letter to the clerk on the 31 May 1843, 7367/B/1843. Mr Day [William Day, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner] for his opinion, with reference especially to Mr Richard's complaint last year of the distance at which Mr Davies the Medical Officer for the Llantrissent [Llantrisant] District resided from the parish of Llantrissent [Llantrisant]and to the fact of Mr Davies [illegible] a District in another union. [Illegible] also clerk's letter of 28 September 1842 12799/B/1942. Inquire of the clerk whether any medical man properly qualified living at Llantrisant or nearer than Mr Davies.
