Description:
Content: Folios 526-529. Letter from Henry Saunders, Clerk to the Guardians of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, regarding the case of Ann Tyler. 'By direction of the Board I beg to forward you the inclosed particulars relative to the Inmate of the workhouse as to whom you were applied to by the Rev Thos Powell [Thomas Powell], Chaplain of the Union'. Note Referencing the letter from the Poor Law Commission dated 21 November 1846 relative to the letter from Thomas Powell, requesting help for an inmate to be sent to the penitentiary at Birmingham. The board have made enquiries and found that the inmate, Ann Tyler aged about 20, has been an inmate several times over the last three or four years and is now 'labouring under venereal disease'. She is in the venereal ward and has expressed contrition for her past conduct and wants to be sent to the penitentiary at Birmingham. She has twice attempted to commit suicide. It was resolved that together with the foregoing a report from the medical officer on her condition be forwarded to the Poor Law Commission. Copy Report from Thomas Thursfield, Medical Officer to Kidderminster Poor Law Union. Ann Tyler, a girl of bad character, previously treated for syphilis, left the house, has now returned with a recurrence of the disease and is in the venereal ward. She has twice attempted suicide. She shows no signs of mental aberration but is sulky and stubborn, aware of her wretched condition and anxious to better it. Annotated: acknowledge and thank. Inform the Reverend Powell that the statement received from the board makes no proposition on the admittance and payment for Ann Tyler to be admitted to the asylum referred to. 2 December 1846.
