Description:
Content: Folios 576-577. Letter from John D Taylor [John Dobede Taylor], Clerk to the Guardians of Bishops Stortford Poor Law Union to the Poor Law Board, asking them to sanction the employment of a young man, Charles Housden, at 2s 6d per week, to superintend the steam cooking apparatus and the cooking generally. 'The steam apparatus has been for some time managed by an old man who is now worn out and in the Infirmary'. The guardians are afraid to entrust it to the casual paupers. Housden will probably teach some of the permanent resident paupers how to use it, so his service will not be required for long. Annotated: Sanction for three months.
