Description:
Content: Folios 166-167. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from Sir John Walsham [John James Walsham], Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Bishop's Stortford Poor Law Union Workhouse, on 27 November 1850. The report includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards, and numbers of inmates. Mr Tufnell, in June 1850, reported that the boys' knowledge is entirely by rote and understand very little, but both the boys and girls are well trained in practical tasks. The guardians are still dissatisfied, and not without reason according to Walsham. Paper Number: 55909/1850. Poor Law Union Number 167. Counties: Hertfordshire and Essex.
