Content: Folios 95-97. Letter from [John illegible] of the Court House, Bury St Edmunds, to the Poor Law Board. He submits for their approval a table of new averages for the Bishops Stortford Poor Law Union calculated in respect of the three years ended 25 March 1849. A certificate showing the guardians' concurrence in the calculations is annexed. Enclosed list giving the new averages for the following: Albury, Berdon, Birchanger, Bishops Stortford, Braughin [Braughing], Elsenhan, Farnham, Little Hadham, Much Hadham, Great Hallingbury, Little Hallingbury, Henham, Manuden, Brent Pelham, Furneux Pelham, Stocking Pelham, Sawbridgeworth, Stansted Mountfitchet, Thorley, Ugley. The total of all the averages is £10,737. Enclosed memorandum certifying the following averages for Bishops Stortford: Average cost of relief: £10,737. Average establishment charges: £1,854. Average paid for loans and interest charges: £772. Average total expenditure: £13,363. Signed by Thomas J Bayliss, Chairman, and John D Taylor [John Dobede Taylor], Clerk to the Guardians. Annotated: by W G L [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary] and J B Junr [John Bright Junior]: order declaring the new averages made on 27 June 1850 and sent on 2 July 1850.
