Content: Folios 274-275. Letter from E Gulson [Edward Gulson, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner] to George Nicholls [Poor Law Commissioner]. He asks for a copy of the letter on assistant overseers to be sent to the board of guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union by Monday's post, and another copy of it to the Mr Riley [John Riley, Auditor of the Basford Poor Law Union]. He says they 'must make the best of a bad business', because a parish has doubled the salary of an assistant overseer, but on the understanding, indeed on condition, that various illegal charges are to be paid by him and thus covered in his salary.
