Content: Folio 178. Letter from William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission reporting on the meeting of the Guardians at the Basford workhouse. Present were: Henry Smith, Chairman; George Farrand, Vice Chairman; Colonel Rollestone and Guardians from Basford, Wollaton, Greasley, Lambley, Arnold, Carlton, Beeston, Gedling, Eastwood and Selston. Resolutions: That, following his letter of application, Mr Deabill be recommended to the Registrar General as [Superintendent] Registrar. That the clerk gets the Poor Law Commission's letter to Mr Sculthorpe printed and distributed to the parishes. That A Pogson, Relieving Officer, applying for an assistant be considered. That the case of James Clifford and family from Shipley, [Derbyshire], admitted to the workhouse was reported to the Board by Mr Chouler. Out relief sum established. Bastardy cases heard. Provisions ordered. Annotated: Acknowledge. Edward Gulson, [Assistant Poor Law Commissioner] for his information. Paper Number: 4650/C/1836. Poor Law Union Number 334.
