Content: Folios 159-160. Letter from William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, to Edwin Chadwick, [Secretary to the Poor Law Commission], reporting on the meeting of the Guardians at the Basford workhouse. Present were: Henry Smith, Chairman; George Farrand, Vice Chairman; Guardians from Beeston, Hucknall, [Barton], Bradmore, Basford and Wollaton. Proposed by Mr Walker and seconded by Mr Aslin that the following cases be sent to Poor Law Commission to consider. William Atwell and wife; George Wagg of Hucknall Torkark [Hucknall Torkard] married a widow with three children three years ago; A B of Basford parish and her bastard child, father [E D]. Magistrates order different from the Sessions one. Relieving Officers books examined. Out relief sum established. Pauper's cases heard. Provisions ordered.
