Content: Folios 91-92. Various minutes of Board of Guardian meetings from William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union. The meetings were as follows: To elect a Relieving Officer for Number 1 District. Thomas Nixon, Chairman; [Colonel Coope [Cooper]], Vice-chairman; Guardians present. Candidates as follows: Mr Buck, Keyworth; Mr Marshall, Heanor [Derbyshire]; Mr Saunders, Carrington; Mr Heath, Snienton [Sneinton]; Mr Riley, Ilkestone [Ilkeston, Derbyshire]; Mr Pogson, Gedling who was elected. Future votes to be by ticket. Clerk to ask [Edward Gulson, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner], to attend the next meeting. Two meetings with Mr Farrand, [Guardian to the Basford Poor Law Union], in the chair, Gulson and Guardians present, second meeting had three observers, to hear the Relieving Officers for Districts 2 and 3 accounts revised. Also resolved, a visiting committee to visit the workhouse with the clerk regularly. Tabular form to be sent. With Thomas Nixon, Chairman; [Colonel Coope], Vice-chairman; Guardians present; tenders were presented, sums are given, for Medical Districts: Number 1 district: Mr Devonport; Mr Smith, Appointed; Mr Kiteler. Number 2 district: Mr Boden; Mr Norman, Appointed; Parkinson and Company. Number 3 district: Best and Company. Mr Walker appointed, [not in original list]. Number 4 district: Mr Butler, Appointed; Mr Orton, Mr J Allen, Mr Marriott. Number 5 district: Mr Gelsthorpe; Mr W Allen Appointed. Number 6 district: Mr Bellings; Mr Massey, Appointed; Mr Davison. Number 7 district: Mr Smellie; Mr Cabe, Appointed. Also resolved: Mr Thorpe's offer to supply bread to the workhouse accepted and for [Mr Haywood] to supply districts 3, 4, 7 with bread, accepted. As no tenders for districts 1,2,5,6 Guardians to supply bread for one month to those parishes. With Thomas Nixon, Chairman, meeting with the resolution that parish officers obtain tenders in their parishes for the supply of bread.
