Content: Folios 424-427. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from Sir John James Walsham, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting on his inspection of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union Workhouse on 14 and 15 May 1849; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards, numbers of inmates. Enclosure: school inspection report by Mr Bowyers [Inspector of Schools] dated March 1849 in which he refers to the setting up of an infant school, industrial training and pupil teachers. Reference is made to the Bridgnorth Union [Shropshire], Faversham Workhouse [Kent], Bedford Workhouse and Guiltcross Workhouse. Annotated: Sir John Walsham asks the Board to note the points made which he has marked and says that he is in communication with the chair of the visiting committee on the subject of industrial training and pupil teachers and says that it would be a good idea for the Board to write to the guardians but the Board say that as he is already in communication with them it would be better for him to urge these points including that of the infant school.
