Content: Folios 89-90. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from Norman Edward Hurst, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Reeth Poor Law Union Workhouse on the 29 September 1865; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards, numbers of inmates. The workhouse children attend a school at Fremington. Their progress is unsatisfactory and he has frequently brought the subject to the notice of the guardians. Suggests that the Board write to the guardians. 'The boys and girls in the workhouse have always, I regret to say, been very ignorant, and it is stated to me by the Workhouse Master they are ignorant of the Commandments and the simplest rules of arithmetic.'
