Description:
Content: Folios 532-533. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from W H Toovey Hawley, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Southampton Incorporation Workhouse on 24 February 1855; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards, numbers of inmates. He notes that many of the dormitories are small and ill-ventilated, the airing yards are too small, and the means of classification are deficient. The girls' school is over-crowded; in the dormitories most beds accommodate three girls including those over seven years old. Paper Number: 6822/1855. Poor Law Union Number 407. Counties: Hampshire.
