Content: Folios 252-253. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from Norman Edward Hurst, Poor Law Board Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Reeth Poor Law Union Workhouse on 29 July 1856; includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards, numbers of inmates. He reported that three children attended the free school in Fremington, where Mr Browne, School Inspector, reported that their progress was very unsatisfactory. He also pointed out that a porter's lodge had been built and other improvements made since his last visit. Annotated: write to the guardians referring to Hurst's report about the alterations made to the workhouse. The Board wished to know what had been done, and what else was proposed, with a copy of the committee's referral, 1 August 1856. Paper Number: 31271/1856. Poor Law Union Number 555.
