Content: Folios 316-317. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from Greville Pigott, Poor Law Inspector, reporting his inspection of the Newport Pagnell Union Workhouse on 9 August 1854. It includes details of medical provision, management of the school, the vagrant wards and numbers of inmates. He also reports on the case of Sarah Lord, former schoolmistress, and Richard Bodley, former schoolmaster and porter, who were no longer employed by the guardians. The case was duly investigated by the justices and she was not committed at the assizes either for the capital crime or for the offence of concealing the birth of a child, after medical witnesses confirmed that the child was born dead. The porter and schoolmaster owned that he was the father of Lord's child and resigned his post. Paper Number: 29933/1854. Poor Law Union Number 23. Counties: Buckinghamshire.
