Folio 14: on 2 November [1800] Penelope had anchored in the bay of Macri on the Asiatic coast. There was HMS Le Tigre and 14 sail of Turkish ships. There was a sudden change of the wind direction from NW to SSE with heavy showers, some time the weather was very hot, however when the wind came from the northward it was very cold. As a result many of the crews were affected with fever by being exposed to sudden changes from hot and cold. During the time when Penelope remained in this area there was a thick fog coming from S and SE up to this point there were 150 on the sick list, most of the cases complained of the same symptoms as William Harris and every man recovered under similar treatment.
