Title: | Lord Steward's Department: Auditors' States of Account |
Description: |
Quarterly states of Lord Steward's Department accounts as audited in the Civil List Audit Office of the Treasury. The records are presented in tabular form. The earliest note the account number; name of tradesman; amount; any deductions or additions; explanation of any deductions or additions; amounts to be paid; and establishment (ie the palace or residence served). This system was soon replaced by a more streamlined account, comprising the account number; name of tradesman; article supplied; and amount. The account was rendered by palace or residence, which appears as a heading. At the end of each account there is supporting material which varies to some extent for different periods. It gives total sums received and paid out by the paymaster of the household; the tradesman concerned (by name, product supplied and amount claimed); palace or residence; sundry miscellaneous disbursements; and disallowances. Some records in this series include services to the royal gardens. |
