Description:

2 individual petitions (John Sawgood father of prisoner, and prisoner) on behalf of Thomas John Sawgood, scalemaker, convicted at the Old Bailey February Sessions 1825 for larceny. Gaoler's report: orderly aboard Ganymede. Grounds for clemency: petitioner is old and blind and relies on son to work for him, has brought up son to be honest and dutiful, 'got in with bad lot' and was drunk when committed crime, has served 4 years, no previous offence, mother destitute without him. Initial sentence: 7 years' transportation. Annotated: when recommended. HN 51
