John Clevland. Admiral Anson complains that the Dispatch Sloop, built at Shoreham, sails badly, is not fit to serve as a cruizer and wants to know why. She was surveyed at Spithead to see whether work on her was properly carried out and whether other ships are built to the same specification, the Otter, Kingsfisher, Raven, Scorpion, Hound, Hinde, Swallow, Speedwell and Tavistock sloops had similar problems. The Portsmouth Officers report the Dispatch was well built and her Commander reported that when she took the Countess le Mark privateer, she performed very well and outsailed other vessels involved |
