Catalogue description Central Office of the Industrial Tribunals: Compensation

The Redundancy Payments Act 1965 s44 transferred to industrial tribunals jurisdiction over questions which under various statutes (some of which are listed in schedule 7 to the Act) were directed to be determined by a referee or board of referees. The matters concerned were questions with regard to compensation for persons who have lost their employment because of some statutory enactment (e.g. the nationalisation or de-nationalisation of the industry in which they worked or the re-organisation of local authority areas). Questions of comparability of a person's employment or the worsening of his position as a result of such an enactment were also referred to the tribunals under these statutes. An employee or a compensating authority could apply for a decision of a tribunal.
