Description:

Files of the Industrial Relations Department dealing with industrial disputes, wage claims and differentials, arbitration, negotiation and conciliation machinery, holidays with pay, and employment legislation (concerning terms, conditions and contracts of employment, redundancy, picketing, the closed shop and other matters). The records include correspondence with, and reports and papers of a large number of councils, committees, boards, tribunals, trade unions and employers associations in a variety of industries.

The main series of registered files is the IR series, covering most aspects of industrial relations, but there are also some other series represented: CB files (conciliation boards); CM files (Cotton Manufacturing Commission); H files (Holidays With Pay Commission); and WO, WI and WR files (wages boards). Also included are files of the National Joint Industrial Councils (JC and JIC files), the National Joint Advisory Council and its Joint Consultative Committee, together with the weekly reports of Chief Conciliation and Industrial Relations Officers.
