Description:

Folios 21-22. Draft letter from the Local Government Board to G E Kirkland, Clerk to the Southwell Union, with a selection of comments from the Workhouse Inspection Report by Mr Stevens on his visit on 8 February 1899. The Board ask for observations on the report.

With the letter are written extracts from the inspection report about infection wards; that there are no infection hospitals in the rural district, children going to elementary schools, and a casual pauper, Alfred Cooper, painting the house.

Annotations: brief notes dated from May 1899 to July 1899.
