Records of the regiment of Grenadier Guards, comprising monthly returns (1767-1949), account books (1817-1881), Army Circulars (1874-1887), order books (1748-1957), commissions (1712-1930), Court Martials (1747-1984), regimental day books (1818-1972) and letterbooks (1701-1907), nominal rolls (1815-1929), and regimental diaries (1861-1954) covering the regiment's role in campaigns in South Africa, Egypt, at Waterloo, during the First and Second World Wars, in Malaya and in Palestine; and including the deposited papers and photographs of officers and guardsmen (1663-1975), comprising letters, diaries, memoirs and other papers, notably the manuscript diaries of Lt Gen Sir Francis Lloyd (1853-1926).

Original arrangement has been retained where possible.

The Grenadier Guards is one of the most senior infantry regiments in the British Army, specialising in Light Role Infantry operations. The Grenadier Guards are renowned for their dual role, serving with great distinction on operations and on the battlefield, whilst carrying out ceremonial duties in London and at Windsor Castle. The history of the Grenadier Guards stretches back to 1656, when a Royal Regiment of Guards was formed by King Charles II at Bruges, Flanders. Since its formation, the Regiment has taken part in all major British campaigns, including Waterloo, the Crimean War, the First and Second World Wars, and most recently in Afghanistan.
